What Is a LAN Party?

According to Wikipedia:

A LAN party is a gathering of people with computers or compatible game consoles, between which they establish a local area network (LAN), primarily for the purpose of playing multiplayer video games. The size of these networks may vary from the very small (two people) to very large installations of hundreds or more. Small parties can form spontaneously, but large ones usually require a fair amount of planning and preparation.

Purpose of this Wiki

The intention with this site is to provide information on both attending and hosting LAN parties, and allow the worldwide LAN community to collaborate on and improve the information, to create a blueprint for successful LAN-ing.

There are many other websites with a wealth of information on LAN parties, but rarely are they altogether international, inclusive, collaborative, comprehensive and up-to-date. This site aims to meet all of these criteria, by asking contributors to follow a list of guidelines for contributing to LANPartyWiki.
